When this happened, they first got in touch with a local roofing contractor. Unfortunately, the repairs were not done correctly. Because of this, the leak came back not long after the project was finished. That’s when they called Stellar Roofing for a complete roof replacement. The Roof Inspection Our team arrived promptly to assess the situation. During the initial roof inspection, our roofing expert Ryan found that the previous repairs had not addressed the underlying issue. The water damage impacted the home office. It also began causing damage to the interior of the home’s attic. In addition to this, some of the support beams installed by the previous contractor were not up to code, and would not be able to support their roof long term. To provide a higher quality solution, we recommended a complete roof replacement. This was in part due to the fact that they had four layers of shingles on their roof already, which was against code and could cause further issues down the line. We got to work installing a brand new, high-quality roof that will protect their home for decades to come. Our team worked with the customer and recommended IKO Dynasty Shingles, due to their high quality and longevity. The Roof Replacement Under the leadership of Julius, the Project Manager, our team removed the old, damaged shingles. As always, we put down a protective tarp on the home to prevent any shingles from damaging the home during the removal. We take the utmost care to make sure our customer’s homes come out looking better and being better than ever. When the removal was finally complete, we found that there were some parts of the decking that were damaged from water and poor installation from the previous contractor. To counteract this, we tore off the old damaged decking to replace it with a higher quality wood that would last longer. We then installed a durable underlayment to create a waterproof barrier. This step is vital, as choosing the right waterproof barrier can mean the difference between a roof that lasts 5 years, and a roof that lasts a lifetime. After this layer was applied, our team got to work installing the IKO Dynasty Shingles. In addition to the shingles, our team also installed lo-omni ridge vents. This is a roof ventilation system that allows hot air and moisture to escape through the roof of the building. This is an especially important step to counteract the water damage caused by the leak. To further waterproof the home, we had a new cricket installed to properly divert water away from direct chimney impact. Finally, we added Hip & Ridge 12™ shingles. These are specialized shingles covering the ridge and hip lines providing a finished appearance and protecting high-stress areas against leaks and blow-off.
