When Henrietta officially became a town back in the year 1818, it also became a cross road of Monroe County. The history of Henrietta all started when a sale of land called "Phelps and Gorham" happened. This purchase opened up western New York State for development after the Revolutionary War. It included over a million acres starting north from Lake Ontario and south to the Pennsylvania border. This also ran east from Geneva and west to the Genesee river.
The town would later become Henrietta that was located in Township XII. It was under jurisdiction of Pittsford and was called "The Woods of West Town" or sometimes just the 'West-Town'. The new name "Henrietta" was named after Henrietta Laura Pulteney. She was a countess and daughter of an early investor in the "Phelps and Gorham" land.
